New England Ballet Theatre is thrilled to announce the third annual Emerging Choreographer Commission, an opportunity created to uplift and invest in emerging choreographic voices. This program is part of NEBT’s ongoing commitment to fostering innovation in dance and providing platforms for new artistic perspectives.

This one-week choreographic residency is designed to support emerging artists in a collaborative, process-driven environment. Choreographers are provided with a cast of NEBT dancers to develop an original work (8–12 minutes), along with mentorship and continued rehearsal support leading to performance.

Following the residency, NEBT will continue to rehearse and develop the work in preparation for performance, with opportunities for virtual check-ins and feedback from the choreographer.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age by September 1, 2026

  • Open to emerging and early-career choreographers from all backgrounds

  • Must be available to travel to Avon, Connecticut

The selected choreographer will:

  • Receive a $750 commissioning fee

  • Be given a $500 costume budget

  • Participate in a one-week incubator-style residency with NEBT company dancers at our studios in Avon, Connecticut

  • Have their original work featured in NEBT's production of Ballet Unbound, to be performed in both New York City and West Hartford, CT

  • Be mentored and supported by NEBT’s Artistic team during the creative process

The selected choreographer must be available for one week between January 4, 2027 – February 26, 2027.

Specific dates will be coordinated based on the choreographer’s and company’s availability.
