New England Ballet Theatre presents Christopher Fleming's, 'The Myth and the Madness of Edgar Allan Poe'.

This original ballet has been turned into a ballet film - with spooky themed, family-friendly fun and a visual re-telling of Edgar Allan Poe's life.

Notes from the Choreographer:

The Myth and the Madness of Edgar Allan Poe is an abstract retelling of the life of Edgar Allan Poe and his decent into madness. He lived a short, painful life, filled with desertion and death. Abandoned by his father and disowned by his foster father, Poe looked to the women in his life to experience emotional stability and comfort, but it was not to be.

Disease was common, and almost all the people Poe cared for died during the epidemics that ravaged his era.

Without these demons and crushing poverty, and his own haunting discontentment one can scarcely imagine that Poe’s dark genius and macabre visions would have ever seen the light of day.

But now, for the first time, the lifework and spirit of Edgar Allan Poe are transported some place new, the ballet stage.

While uniting written word and ballet movement is nothing new, I have created a new ballet that will take word and dance into an eerie and mysterious direction.
